About the meetup:
Anxious about how to do your taxes? You’re not alone. During this donation-based workshop, tax advisor Elisabeth Parker from Brass Taxes will talk about common questions, problems, and issues that come up for freelancers doing their taxes in the United States, then take questions from participants. This is not a time to help individual people with their personal tax returns, but a great place for working artists to bring general tax questions. Such as: How the heck do I do my taxes?! This one-hour workshop will get you started with some helpful knowledge.
This workshop is offered sliding-scale. Please feel free to register for the free option. But, as you’ll learn, if you’re a business, whatever you pay to attend this workshop is tax deductible, baybee!
Date:
This is an online workshop that lasts for one hour, facilitated by Crucial Comix publisher Shay Mirk. It will happen on Thursday, February 20 at 1-2pm PT / 4-5pm ET.
Everyone who registers will be invited to join the Crucial Comix Discord.
What you need:
• You’ll want to take notes! Bring a notepad.
• Any not-too-personal-and-complex tax questions you have about running a small business as an artist
About Brass Taxes:
Brass Taxes is a team of tax preparers who focus on doing taxes for artists and freelancers. In addition to being tax experts, their team comes from myriad creative backgrounds. Elisabeth Parker is an artist and craftsperson who works in music/sound, photography, metal, fiber, clay, and feelings. Her current focus outside of art and taxes is studying up on construction techniques and Land Back approaches while slowly restoring a 1920s bungalow built on unceded Wabanaki Confederacy land in so-called southern Maine, where she lives with her partner and cat.
To make them affordable, all of our classes and workshops are offered at a sliding scale cost.
Supporter - This payment level pitches in a little extra toward the teacher’s income and helps pay artists to create new comics at Crucial. Thanks for your support!
Standard - This is the basic rate for the class, which covers our costs.
Discount - We want people of all income levels in our classes, so choose this rate if you paying the standard rate is a stretch for you.
We set aside three spots in each class to be offered for free to people who would find it a hardship to pay the discount rate for any reason. These free spots are first-come, first-serve. If you would like to take a class for free, please send us a short email about yourself, what class you would like to take, and why. If a free spot is still available, we’ll send you a discount code to register for free! Email: editors@crucialcomix.com
